SUMMARY: “Welcome to Derry, Maine … It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real … They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them back to Derry to face the nightmare without an end, and the evil without a name.” (Adapted from Goodreads)
REVIEW: Hi! My name is Rachel and I really cannot believe I read this book. Who even am I?? This was (hand-down) the weirdest, creepiest, grossest book I’ve ever read, but because Stephen King is the literal King of a well-developed, incredibly engrossing story, I freaking loved this beastly novel.
★ From incredibly dynamic characters to a created world so believable you start to think you’re existing within it, Stephen King’s It shines… IF, that is, you can handle the MAX creep factor. ★
To an extent, I’m not really sure if any of my words will accurately do justice to the mastery of this novel. In the genre of horror, I’m not an expert (which is probs a really good thing - cause, nightmares), but in the genre of incredible writing, King is a freaking master. I literally don’t know how he does it. There were definite points where I was like, “What the H, King? Where are you going with this? How many pages do I have left?” But, for the majority of the book, you couldn’t tear my eyes away from that tiny text. Derry is real. Stephen King created a literal town out of words. I’m 100% convinced.
I’m so glad I took a chance on this 1,156 page marathon. Extra large shout-out to my friend, Jen for being my main squeeze throughout it all. You’re the best, friend! May our clown-gif friendship never end.
Overall, a must for any King aficionado. A “maaaaaybe wait till you’re older” if you’re a King newbie.
SENSITIVITY WARNINGS: This book is not for the sensitive reader. There are elements of pretty much everything… death, sexual content, heavy language, elements of gore & horror. **If you want to read this book & would like a good heads up on some of the particularly disturbing scenes, please let me know!**
